Unqualified praise for Diabolikly Pink

Like most of you, I joined this Ning network for one very important reason: because YTCracker fucking told me too. Isn't that reason enough?

But this begs the question, what exactly am I going to do here? What will my contribution be? I reckon there's only one answer, and that answer is plain to see. I'll do what I always do; I'll write. But what to write? What can I pen here that I haven't already written at my blog or on my MySpace, or that I havent' already talked about on my podcast?

After some careful consideration, I believe I've finally struck upon the answer. There is one thing, one single, solitary thing around which I have danced for some time now, but never put to page: unqualified praise .

Whenever I talk about an artist at Hipster, please! or on the podcast or even on a BBS or through email, I generally go out of my way to disclose my past interaction with the performer in question. Are we friends? Has he offered me help with my projects? Has he given me new material for the podcast or hipped me to his next release?

Because of all that tiptoeing, I feel that maybe I don't give everyone quite the amount of support that they deserve. Now, I'm a creature of habit, and I fall into ruts fairly easily. So, while I can't just flip a switch and stop being so goddamn careful with my words via other avenues, maybe, just maybe, I can relax the reigns a bit here. Maybe here in our own little pocket universe I can just recommend an artist or a track or an album that you may've missed without giving quite so many reasons why you should check it out.

Maybe I can just say I dig this and maybe you'll dig it too, and then the rest is up to you.

Okay, here goes.

Of course you're down with YT and you've already picked up Beefy's last album. You're certainly familiar with the glory of Frontalot and you've bumped everything that Metamystiks Inc. have submitted for human consumption. But are you down with Pinky?

Canberra Australia's Grandmaster Pink and Diabolik dropped their first EP late last year with a little help from their friends and a lot less fanfare from the community at large than they rightly deserved.

Now Pink is a friend of mine, but fuck it; that is neither here nor there. If you love old school hip-hop with a genuine sense of humor and real nerdy chops, then I would highly recommend Diabolikly Pink.

Check it out if you like. It may or may not be your thing, but I, personally, think it's the shit.

And there you have it: unqualified praise. Well, mostly unqualified. ;)
